The major limitation of the folding door is of course the space it takes up inside the car when opening, even if the overall dimensions are very limited. However, it offers the great advantage, unlike automatic doors, of not going beyond the limit space of the cabin and therefore installation is possible in very small compartments ensuring the greatest possible free passage. The car door operator is usually positioned on the car roof and its small size makes installation possible also on systems with limited headroom. To maximize overhead space or for specific architectural needs, the operator can also be placed under the cabin. The lack of coupling for dragging the landing doors - as happens for automatic telescopic doors - makes for a quite simple installation. The only precaution needed is to check the correct combination between the locks of the landing doors and the release system for the aforementioned locks installed on the folding door. There are different options that range from retractable levers on the folding door, to the fixed shape on the cabin, to the electrified retractable sliding block (with independent operation) to the electrically operated landing locks that do not require any precautions for the folding car door. The scope of use may be limited, but the folding door is certainly here to stay if we consider the characteristics of the Italian real estate and lifts.
