nio”. “life of the condominium”. Replacing a lift, completely or partially, creates a greater discomfort for the tenants of the upper floors. The fact of not being able to use the lift for a few weeks (obviously depending on the type of renovation), could add to the discomfort of having construction works which produce noise, dust, debris, as well as obviously to the economic aspect; in the latter case we must take into account that the tenants’ mood will not be the best for a cer- tain period of time. Circling back to our objective, when re- structuring the focus is to keep in mind the important sizes to be measured on site. To better understand these aspects, below are a series of (descriptive and graphical) examples. Example 1: Replacing only the landing door (Figure 1). This type of renovation consists in replacing the existing swing doors with new swing doors, but with characteristics that comply with the standards UNI EN 81-20/50 and with approved locks. The dimensions needed to perform this type of intervention are as follows: • Landing door opening: width (LP) and height (HP). • Overall landing door dimensions [light + frames]: width (LP + T1 + T2) and height (HP + HT). • Existing marble / masonry span: width (LM) and height (HM). • Car entrance light position with related to the landing door (X, Y). • Free passage of cabin doors (PL). • Total dimensions of existing doors: width (AE) and height (HAE). • - Distance from the door wall to the front of the car (D). • - Existing door thickness and positioning (S1, S2, S3). This last aspect is important to understand how to reposi- tion the new door in the existing spaces and, if necessary, have the floor frames made with special dimensions. A series of measurements is necessary to define the posi- tion of the new electromechanical locks, which will have to be relocated in the same area in order to couple with the pre-existing opening devices on the car (the latter should be replaced). In addition to the above, the data relating to the door finish- ings: color, type of handle, type and size of windows, crystal, etc. Example 2: Replacement of swing doors on the landing and car access automation (Figure 2). This is one of the most common solutions in lift moderniza- tion, it consists of replacing the swing doors on the floors. In the car, the manual doors are replaced with a folding door operator or an automatic door. The replacement of the hinged landing doors follows the instructions given in the previous case, but before replacing the manual doors, it is necessary to understand if the existing car can be modified to accommodate the new solution. Otherwise it will be nec- essary to replace the entire front or, if this is not possible, the entire car. Furthermore, depending on the choice of the 34 Focus tecnico d i M a r c o C o g l i at i
