A lift’s door operator retrofit is a multifaceted procedure involving several technical and regula- tory aspects that require close collaboration be- tween the technician (survey execution) and designer (knowledge of technical standards, among others UNI 10411, and solutions offered by component manufactur- ers). For the reasons stated above, this brief text focuses on the importance of knowing the state of the art, highlighting design considerations and practical examples of developed work. Firstly, in relation to partial modernizations of lift doors that have been out of production for years, the com- ponents to be replaced must be defined (door operator; op- erator and complete cabin door, etc.) because according to the type of modernization required, both the components / materials and the adaptations to the pre-existing mate- rial will vary. In terms of the final result, the door opera- tor replacement has a limited “appeal” for the customer and the end user, when compared to the replacement of landing / car doors, but it has significant advantages in terms of comfort and reliability compared to the previous installation. To replace only the door operator, the coupling must be perfect in order to open the locks of the exist- ing landing doors, which isn’t the case when replacing both the operator and the suspensions, where the floor and car mechanisms are manufactured by the same manufacturer, eliminating the need for special coupling. In both the above examples, the need to make adapters to the existing doors is highly likely. Analyzing the case of automat- ic operator replacement allows us to understand what must be measured to replace the car mechanism, both in the technical measurement and in the project analysis phase: - type of coupling between the interlock outrigger and the operator’s carriage combination (fixed shape / “sword”, combined with opening, combined with closing); - verification of the existing cab roof to evaluate the fasten- ing of the new operator; - appearance of the panels in order to create the appropri- ate extensions / brackets in order to fix the trolleys of the new operator to the pre-existing panels; - size of the car sill that remains in place, to understand how much the new coupling must be moved forward or backward with respect to the entrance; - dimensions of the compartment to verify that the new operator can be positioned easily (encumbrance of the operator and its mechanisms in relation to the available space); - verification of the weight of the new operator compared to the previous one, to verify the difference with 43 In base al tipo di modernizzazione saranno differenti i materiali da realizzare, così come gli adattamenti al materiale preesistente che rimarrà in opera Materials will differ depending on the type of modernization, as will the adaptations to the pre-existing material
