48 the obstruction is no longer in the way, the door will close again. The elevator light curtain is generally composed of three parts: an infrared transmitter, an infrared receiver and a special flexible safety cable installed on both sides of the el- evator car door. Some elevator light curtains are equipped with a special power box for the power supply of the eleva- tor light curtain. The light curtain transmitting device is equipped with several infrared transmitting tubes. Under the control of the built-in MCU, the infrared light is trans- mitted and the receiving tube of the light curtain receiving device receives the light and finishes the photoelectric con- version. The light transmitted from one transmitting tube is received by several receiving tubes to form multi-channel scanning. Through this top-down continuous scanning of the car door area, a dense infrared protective curtain is formed. When any of the beams of light are blocked and the receiving device can’t achieve photoelectric conversion, the light curtain has been interrupted, so the output of an interrupt signal is created. This interrupt signal can be a switching quantity signal, or a high and low voltage level signal. Upon receiving the signal from the light curtain, the controller will send an output signal to open the door or keep the door opening, until the passenger or the obstacle is no longer in the door entrance area. When the light curtain detects that the door entrance is clear from obstacles, the elevator door close control system will close the doors. This system ensures that no damage or injury can occur between the elevator doors. Due to environmental protection and energy saving regu- lations, more and more traditional elevator light curtains are eliminating the power box. However due to technical reasons, some elevator light curtains still need to include the power box, in order to avoid strong electromagnetic inter- ference. Elevator light curtain standards are inherited from EN 81-20 (originally EN 81-1) and EN 81-70 of the Eleva- tor Directive 2014/33/EU of the elevator safety standard. Regarding the protection height range of the light curtain, the area less than 25 mm and more than 1600 mm from the sill should be protected. The minimum size of the shield- ing object is required to be 50 mm. A 50 mm obstacle (test block) should be detected at any position in the whole pro- tective height range. This requires the design of the infrared tube spacing to not be greater than 50 mm, whilst to ensure the standard requirements of protection height, a minimum of 35 pairs or more of infrared tubes are required. There are two ways to install an elevator light curtain: fixed installation or mobile installation. The fixed installation of the light curtain means that the transmitting device and re- ceiving device of the light curtain are fixed at the end of the floor of the car door (normally on the sill) through the fixing brackets.
