NUOVE UNI 10411 - 1 & 2 d i R o b e r t o C o r r a d i n i mechanical and electrical components, which are able to guarantee correct but above all safe operation. Safety is a fundamental aspect, since lifts are available to everyone. Repairing but also replacing worn components with more performing ones that ensure greater reliability and safety. The legislator first focused on details and then embraced an overall view of the lift. The first step was to move from repairing the single component to its replacement. Subsequently, for components performing similar tasks (for example the locking devices of the landing doors) the option of their simultaneous replacement was evaluated. Finally, looking at the machine as a whole and considering the possibility of having more advanced components, the standard gives indications on how to proceed in case of more significant works such as replacing the electrical system, replacing the lifting unit (the winch with its support and traction ropes), replacing the automatic floor devices, adding a stop and so on. In the meantime, after ‘99, the rules, no longer “crystallized” in a law, have evolved much more rapidly than in the previous period, to keep up with the notable technological development and the increase in the level of safety that is required today. This entailed continuous updating of the standard itself in subsequent years, with the aim of giving precise instructions on how to proceed with repairs and / or modernizations, raising the level of safety as far as possible to the current standard which can be found on newly installed systems. Today, thanks to the regulatory support and professionalism of the operators in the sector, we can say that the lift continues to be considered, in the transport sector, the safest machine available to the user. 10
