Confrontation “outside Europe” has always been an incentive for growth for its members, both from a technical and cultural point of view. Regular meetings with various non-European associations based on the work programs of the standards issued by CEN / TC 10 and ISO / TC 178 that started in 1995, have allowed a beneficial “exchange of experiences” on a large number of technical issues. On 24 April 2019, the day in which a Memorandum of Un- derstanding (MoU) was signed between ELA and the main Chinese association (CEA), a protocol of continental signifi- cance was also launched. ELA proposed the foundation of the World Federation of Lifts and Escalators (WEEF) which involves 11 organizations, including Efesme, distributed in the most important continents relatively to where the indus- try products are installed (Europe, Asia, the Americas and Russia). The WEEF was created with the intention of pooling the efforts of those who believe that overall lift safety can only be achieved by adopting high standards globally, and com- pliance to CEN / ISO standards is considered essential for safety. However realism must be applied, as to date
