the safety of lifts and escalators is unevenly upheld globally, which is a strong element of discrimination against users who, unaware of the rules applied, regularly use the existing lifts and escalators. The rules underlying lift installation and use still vary be- tween continents, and even from country to country. The value chain including the industry, legislator, inspection body and ultimately the user, must ensure that, during the design, installation, maintenance and use of lifts and esca- lators, the parameters of safety and reliability are respected in all steps. Therefore uniform rules are necessary, based on a virtuous and rigorous conduct. As reported, in 2019 the WEEF global initiative was launched, specifically aimed at the worldwide advance- ment of the concepts of “Technical Harmonization” for lifts, escalators and their components. “Certify once and install anywhere”, this is the guiding light of the activities that take place, according to a clear roadmap, within specifically cre- ated working groups. Bisogna tuttavia essere realisti in quanto, ad oggi, la sicu- rezza degli ascensori e delle scale mobili non è uniforme- mente rispettata in tutto il mondo e questo fattore confi- gura un forte elemento di discriminazione nei confronti degli utilizzatori i quali, inconsapevoli delle norme appli- cate, utilizzano regolarmente gli impianti di ascensori e scale mobili esistenti. Le regole alla base delle installazioni e dell’utilizzo degli ascensori, ancora oggi, variano da continente a continente, e persino da paese a paese. La catena del valore che com- prende l’industria, il legislatore, l’ente di ispezione e infine l’utilizzatore, deve garantire che, durante la progettazio- ne, l’installazione, la manutenzione e l’uso degli ascenso- ri e delle scale mobili, tutti i passaggi siano rispettosi dei parametri condivisi di sicurezza e affidabilità.
