72 ESME then decided to address two topical issues, digitization and cybersecurity , studying their impact on the activity of SMEs that are often lacking even basic digital skills. These two themes, studied by the Federation’s Digital WG, were central during forums and seminars organized with SBS and held over the last three years, with the aim of bringing elevator SMEs ever closer to the latest digital inno- vations, which can be both opportunities and risks. Digitization and cybersecurity are becoming increasingly important also in terms of Building InformationModeling- BIM , in which a software collects all the information relating to a building, including elevators, and whichmarks a real dig- ital turning point in construction. Introduced in Italy in 2016 with the New Procurement Code, the use of BIM has become mandatory in public procurement with the Baratono decree. Possibly the same will also happen in the private sector with a strong and inevitable impact on the lift sector which must organize itself in time or risk being unprepared. First it is nec- essary to understand which and how much system data must be shared, including for designer and producer protection. Followed by an evaluation of suppliers’ ability to satisfy the demand for 3D BIM models from small and medium-sized lift companies that usually assemble parts. Finally, a series of information is necessary to complement the projects, such as detailed price lists, bills of materials, technical specifications, which at the moment are not always provided. Initially involved in the study of BIM by SBS, EFESME de- cided to further investigate the subject. In collaboration with SBS, a first Forum was organized on May 27 th in order to start addressing the issue. The Federation is also evaluating the possibility of participating in the activities of CEN TC 442, the technical committee dedicated to the development of European legislation on BIM. The hope is to be able to continue to count on the support of SBS to ensure that any specific standardization work for the lift sector is suitable for SMEs. SMEs are still driving the economy and we believe they will also drive its recovery. Therefore keeping up with new tech- nologies is essential, or the gap with large companies will become unbridgeable: the importance of investments in re- search and development remains undeniable, as well as the need to be able to count on a stable network that supports SMEs in their daily work. Although EFESME has existed for more than fifteen years, few companies are actually interested in the activities of the Federation, thus losing the great opportunity to present na- tional contributions both at a regulatory level, to successfully participate in drafting new standards, as well as in the po- litical arena. If every single nation, with its own members, would transmit its opinions, positions, needs and ideas, con- fronting themselves at the European level, it would certainly be possible to obtain ever more important results. Collabora- tion is, and will be, vital at every level, to ensure the creation of a work environment that is increasingly tailored and ben- eficial to the lift SMEs that EFESME represents. serie di forum e seminari organizzati con SBS e svoltisi ne - gli ultimi tre anni, con l’obiettivo di avvicinare sempre di più le PMI ascensoristiche alle più recenti novità digitali, che possono essere tanto delle opportunità quanto dei rischi.
