Recent regulations have imposed high safety standards and automatic doors are increasingly perform- ing and safe. Imaginative requests from consultants, engineers, architects, are increasingly frequent and push companies to test innovative materials such as carbon, special alloys, plastics and different kinds of glass. It is not uncommon to see beautiful doors on mega yachts or prestigious facilities, where quality materials and lights emphasize the “ability to do”. Whenever possible, the component builder will aid in seeking the aesthetic solution that highlights the skill of the elevator operator, making the single in- stallation a distinctive trademark of the corporate style. Let’s not forget that the main role of automatic lift doors is to increase the level of well-being of people by integrating into the aesthetics of the context in which it is installed. When an lift installer manages to install an automatic door, he renders a long-lasting service to the users. It is an inestimable added value, which is appreciated over time, not to mention the cases of disabled users. The true “value” of automatic doors is perceived when they are missing. We have built special doors even of incredibly small sizez and we have been able to meet very complicated needs. The lift producer must not limit his ability, but must ask the component manu- facturer to collaborate, to push the boundary, the limits of appli- cability of automatic doors ever further. It is thanks to this col- laboration work that we have arrived where we are today. Each automatic door model has different characteristics. A thin door for modernizations needs to be assembled with a very accurate level of precision. Doors are very narrow and thin require adjust- ments measured inmillimetres. Plumbing and alignment of locks is essential. Adoor alignment error cannot be recovered by simply adjusting the lock. When dealing with standard sized doors, there are basically two fields of application. The Commodity market, with typically poor doors for adjustments, and then the residen- tial market, with more flexible and performing models. Doors with fewer adjustments require greater care inassembling. An out of plumb element is enough to invalidate the proper functioning of the closing system. Then there are more flexible and adjustable models that easily adapt to the surface on which they rest even if it is not regular.Their cost increases, but their reliability risesmore than proportionally. Sometimes the cost difference is just a few euros, but it drastically reduces the hours of intervention required during the product’s life. The doors all work well, but “how” they are used can make a difference. If an automatic door needs re- placement, there are three possible scenarios. The first, where the original door manufacturer can provide a new model to replace the old product. The second, where the company of origin no lon- ger exists and an adaptation has to be made. In this case the main manufacturers are able to give solutions for any situation. A technical on site check is required, following the newdoor’s supplier indications. Every detailmatters. Agood tech- nical dialogue will produce a specific solution to meet everyone’s needs. Among the various things to focus on during the check, must consider only by way of example: • the main dimensions; • check if there is an overtravel of the panels and consider the door with the worst case; 29
