7.2.3.6 To avoid the dragging of children’s hands, automatic horizontal sliding glass doors larger than those referred to in paragraph 7.6.2 must be equipped with means that reduce the risk to a minimum, such as: a) reduction of the friction coefficient between hands and glass; b) opaque glass up to a height of 1.10 m; c) finger presence sensors, or d) other equivalent systems. 5.3.6.2.2.1 i) To avoid the dragging of children’s hands, automatic hori- zontal sliding glass doors larger than those referred to in paragraph 7.6.2 must be equipped with means that reduce the risk to a minimum, such as: 1) making the glass opaque on the user side by using both ground glass and frosted material up to a minimum height of 1.10 m, or 2) detecting the presence of fingers at least up to 1.60 m above the threshold and stopping the door from opening, or 3) limiting movement between the door panels and the frame to a maximum of 4 mm at least to a minimum of 1.60 m above the threshold. This value, due to wear, can reach 5 mm. The recesses (ground glass, etc.) must not exceed 1 mm and must be included in the 4 mm gap. The maximum radius on the outer edge of the frame adjacent to the door panel must not be greater than 4 mm. 7.4.2 Guide 5.3.3.2 Guide 7.4.2.1 Landing doors must be made in such a way as to avoid mechani- cal jams and derailing, both laterally and at the ends of the guid- ing, during their normal activity. An emergency guide system must be installed keeping the landing doors in their position when the guides can no longer perform their function due to wear, corrosion or a fire. 5.3.3.2.1 Landing and car doors must be made in such a way as to avoid derailments, mechanical jams or dropping during their normal operation. As shown in the tables above, the European legislation, with the innovations introduced in EN 81-20 and EN 81-50, wanted to emphasize the importance of landing and car doors in ensuring the overall safety of the lifts. Insiders seem to have understood the importance of the innovations introduced in the latest round of regulatory updates. For example, the declaration of compliance of the door and the frame with the pendulum tests is now an integral part of the lift technical file as well as the declarations of conformity of the safety components. Currently the EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 is being updated. Experts are working to edit and perfect the text. Furthermore, the validity of what is indicated in the 2014 versions (reconfirmed in 2020) is being assessed in order to make any further improvements, always aiming for the greatest possible level of safety. 71 Note: green: no changes red: deleted text black: new text.
