Nel 1984 la società ungherese Graphisoft rilascia il primo software con caratteristiche BIM su un pc, it was more or less from the 1960s that people started talking about information modelling and collaboration. In 1962, Douglas Carl Engelbart, an American inventor and engineer, demonstrated the functioning of his new ‘oNLine System’, a hypertext system, forerunner of the Internet, during a presentation at the autumn Joint Computer Conference in San Francisco. The basic idea was that this technology should facilitate communication and professional collaboration between people with different skills, in even very distant places. In 1974, in a publication edited for the Carnegie-Mellon University of Pittsburgh entitled ‘An outline of the building description system’, Professor Charles M. Eastman formulated the Building Description System (BDS), a parametric modelling system based on a database ‘computerised to allow a geometric, spatial and property-related description of a large number of physical elements, arranged in space and connected as if in a real building’. From this building description system will start the experimentation that will lead to the current definition of BIM. A further step forward was taken by Robert Aish who collaborated in the development of the RUCAPS (Riyadh University Computer-Aided Production System) programme. Developed between the 1970s and 1980s, the software was used in the construction of Terminal 3 at London’s Heathrow Airport. In 1984, the Hungarian company Graphisoft released the first software with BIM features on a PC, as a result of a research project entitled Virtual Building. Per necessità di spazio, ne ripercorriamo la storia soffermandoci sugli eventi più importanti BIM, contrary to what one might think, did not suddenly appear on the design scene. For the sake of space, let us trace its history by focusing on the most important events STORIA di tlp
