ANACAM MAGAZINE - n. 2 aprile | giugno 2024

* Segretario e referente Sportello di Ascolto APIC ** Volontaria dell’Associazione APIC e ideatrice dell’indagine ARE U app that allows them to interact via chat directly with 112. Some respondents were helped by neighbours or other people - reached through alternative communication channels such as video calls, SMS or other messaging apps - who then acted as a conduit to telephone assistance. The survey revealed some suggestions for improving the perceived safety of people with hearing disabilities, such as the use of doors with glass sections. These allow users to be visible to passers-by, who can provide assistance in an emergency. 87% of those interviewed would find it useful if there were always a dedicated emergency number inside the car, enabled to receive SMS or messages via specific APPs. The importance of ensuring both telephone and internet signal coverage within the lift itself was also emphasised. According to 88% of the respondents, the installation of a monitor inside the lift car could be very useful in case of an emergency. The monitor is definitely the preferred solution (69%) compared to the emergency number (31%) because visual contact with the operator would allow immediate feedback on the handling of the problem in the lift. Respondents suggested that in addition to the visualisation of the operator, there should also be the possibility to read and write text messages in order to ensure a complete and effective interaction with assistance. Indeed, the intercoms on some lifts can alter the sound quality of voices, making it more difficult for those with hearing problems to understand information. Many respondents pointed out that the presence of both solutions could increase their sense of security. Finally, several respondents expressed the need for the operator answering the video call to have some knowledge of LIS (Italian Sign Language). * Secretary and contact person of the APIC listening desk ** Volunteer of the APIC Association and creator of the survey DI DAVIDE BECHIS* E CECILIA CODEBÒ** ACCESSIBILITÀ&ASCENSORI
