Quasi duemila anni dopo, gli stessi meccanismi per il trasporto di materiali o SINCE its invention, the lift has been a true symbol of the economic and technological revolution. In whatever field it has been used, whether civil or industrial, the lift has undoubtedly improved the lives of many, making its contribution to the path of progress. FROM THE PYRAMIDS TO ANCIENT ROME But when were the first elevator prototypes born? We have to go back in time, to a very distant era between 2650 and 1700 BC. Monumental works such as the famous pyramids, true wonders of the ancient world that need no further presentation, were built along the Nile, on the Giza Plateau. These extraordinary architectural constructions were made possible by the use of platforms raised by animals and people, through a system of ropes and pulleys. In principle, it can be said that the basic principle was similar to that of the lift proper, although obviously in a very primitive form. Almost two thousand years later, the same mechanisms for transporting materials or animals were also used in Ancient Rome, specifically inside the Flavian Amphitheatre, now known to most as the 70 THE HISTORY OF THE LIFT: from ancient Egypt to the 20th century LA STORIA DELL’ASCENSORE: dall’antico Egitto al Novecento
