IS USEFUL, thirty years after the first certifications in our industry, to take stock of the adoption of ISO 9001-compliant quality management systems and other certifications. To this end, a survey was conducted based on the database of Accredia, the only accreditation body in Italy. Although the study may not be exhaustive, it is believed that the first assessments are already significant. Around two thousand lift installation and maintenance companies are believed to operate in Italy, including an unspecified number dedicated only to installation (partial or total modernisation work) on behalf of third parties, as well as some that only install stairlifts and the like. Then there are about a hundred or so component manufacturers or subcontractors of specialised services (the latter are mainly emergency service management call centres). Also operating in Italy are the multinationals Otis, Schindler, Kone and TK Elevators, each with one or more subsidiaries, and each with a certain number of subsidiary companies, a few of which are of a certain size (Neulift, ESA Elecomp), and others which are SMEs with or without the presence of other shareholders, often the former owners who have relinquished control. Independent companies are mostly micro-companies with 12 CERTIFICATIONS: diffusion and effects among companies in the sector CERTIFICAZIONI: diffusione ed effetti tra le imprese del settore GESTIONE AZIENDALE DI GIUSEPPE IOTTI* L’INDAGINE CONDOTTA DA ANACAM RIVELA CHE LE AZIENDE ASCENSORISTICHE PIÙ STRUTTURATE APPAIONO PIÙ ATTENTE AL TEMA DELLE CERTIFICAZIONI RISPETTO AI LORO FORNITORI The survey conducted by Anacam reveals that the most structured lift companies appear to pay more attention to the topic of certifications than their suppl iers
