13 On 31 October 2024, UNI - Ente Italiano di Normazione published the new edition of UNI 10411, the technical standard which gives rules about how to modify existing lift systems. The purpose of this article is to highlight the changes, variations and additions compared to the 2021 edition. Let us analyse the main new features together. STRUCTURE AND SCOPE OF THE NEW STANDARDS The standards have been reduced to four and each covers the following fields: • 10411 part 1: modifications to existing electric lifts not compliant with the Lift Directive • 10411 part 2: modifications to existing hydraulic lifts not compliant with the Lift Directive • 10411 part 11: modifications to existing electric lifts compliant with the Lifts Directi<ve • 10411 part 12: modifications to existing hydraulic lifts compliant with the Lifts Directive MAINCHANGESANDADDITIONS Here is a summary of the changes made to each standard. One important aspect is the layout: each point in the four standards, marked with the same number, deals with the same topic. UNI 10411-1 In the UNI 10411-1 standard, on electric lifts not compliant with the Lift Directive, the main changes concern: • variation of the static load (Art. 6): the description of T* has been added: load capacity, weight of the car, weight of the frame and of the car door(s) complete with automatism(s); • replacement of the control panel (Art. 11): ° it is allowed to not apply the requirements deriving from the application of point 5.10.1.2.3 of UNI EN 81-20:2020; ° it is necessary to regularise the lighting of the machinery space and the shaft according to point 5.2.1.4 of UNI EN 81-20:2020; • replacement of hinged car doors with horizontally sliding ones (Art. 13): for new car doors it is allowed to not apply point 5.3.15.2 of UNI EN 81-20:2020; • variation of the nominal speed (Art. 15): the reference speed is the one reported in the logbook or the one reported on an additional verification1 report with a later date; • replacement of the suspension ropes (Art. 17): the approach has changed compared to the previous edition: now, following the change of the suspension ropes, it is suggested to perform an additional verification; • replacement of the limiter (Art. 18): when replacing it, the norm specifies that point 5.5.7.1 of UNI EN 81-20:2020 (mechanical protection of the pulley) must also be complied with; • guardrail (Art. 24): the list of documentation requires the submission of a drawing indicating the spaces which comply with point 5.2.5.7 of UNI EN 81-20 or point 5.6 of UNI EN 81-21. UNI 10411-2 Here are the main changes to UNI 10411-2: • variation of the static load (Art. 6): see analogous point in 10411-1; • replacement of the control panel (Art. 11): ° see analogous point in 10411-1; ° modification of clause 11.1.4: when changing the switchboard, it is required to comply with clause 5.6.7 of EN 81-20:2020; • replacement of hinged car doors AT THE END OF OCTOBER 2024, UNI RELEASED THE UPDATED UNI 10411 STANDARD, WHICH REGULATES VOLUNTARY UPGRADE ON EXISTING LIFTS. THE NEW EDITION INTRODUCES FOUR SEPARATE STANDARDS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIFTS New edition of UNI 10411 published: new features and additions compared to 2021 IN THE NEW EDITION, THE REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO FOUR, BASED ON THE TYPES OF LIFTS
