Lifts, as well as escalators, freight elevators, lifting platforms and stair lifts, are essential technologies in our daily lives. Millions of people use them every day, often unaware of the complex skills and ongoing maintenance required to ensure their safety and efficiency. ‘Il mondo degli ascensori. Manuale per le scuole superiori per futuri tecnici ascensoristi’ (‘The World of Lifts. High school handbook for future lift technicians’) is designed to bring high school students, particularly those at technical and vocational schools, closer to our sector. Written in simple language and enriched with detailed illustrations, ‘Il mondo degli ascensori’ is not just a technical manual: it is an invitation to discover a sector full of professional opportunities that requires commitment, expertise and passion. The aim is to inspire new generations and respond to the growing demand for qualified personnel in the sector. The handbook is part of an educational kit, produced by Anacam, which also includes a course lasting around 50 hours, a video to illustrate the profession of lift operator in a modern and engaging way, clips featuring testimonials from young technicians, and an information leaflet. All the material is available to member companies in the section dedicated to Anacam Academy, easily accessible from the banner on the home page of the site. Organised into eight chapters, the manual guides students through the main components of lifts and other elevation systems, from the electrical and electronic part to the mechanical one, illustrating how motors, safety sensors and control systems work together to ensure the efficient and safe movement of the systems. The operation of components such as winches, guides and ropes is also explored, providing an overview of the technologies used in the industry. The manual also covers health and safety issues for installers and maintenance personnel. A specific chapter is dedicated to the regulatory aspect, with an overview of international, European and national standards governing the sector. The last chapter focuses on energy and environmental aspects, highlighting the importance of sustainability, which concerns not only energy consumption, but the entire life cycle of products. There are test papers in the manual to consolidate learning. Our thanks go to Anacam for involving us in the production of the manual, which required a special effort to calibrate topics and language, and to engineer Nicola Di Lillo for his painstaking work in revising the text. * Koppel A.W.
