IN a still strongly male-dominated sector such as the lift industry, two passionate and determined women have recently obtained their licence as lift technicians. Martina Rossi and Raffaella Giuli, both ‘daughters of art’ from associated companies, attended the course organised for Anacam in Milan by Elio Defusto, brilliantly passing the exam together with two other colleagues. In this double interview, they tell their story, the difficulties they encountered and the reasons why they believe more and more women should consider this career. WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL HISTORY AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN THE COMPANY? Martina Rossi: Grew up in a family of craftsmen. The company was founded by my grandfather in Concorezzo in the early 60s, and today it is run by my parents: my father takes care of the installations while my mother follows the administration. I also have a brother, but he has never shown any interest in this job. Four years ago, driven by curiosity, I started working in the company and I soon realised that being in an office was not for me. I am a dynamic person, I like to be on the move. When I told my father that I wanted to follow him in the field, he was surprised but happy. He had incredible patience with me and I am deeply grateful to him for that. Raffaella Giuli: My company was also founded in the early 1960s by my father, in Mantua. I officially joined in 1997, after my father had sold 50 per cent of the company to a multinational fearing that my sister and I were not interested in continuing the family business. But he was wrong. In 2013, we decided to buy back the other half of the company, MARTINA ROSSI DELLA AMRD DI CONCOREZZO E RAFFAELLA GIULI DELLA GIULI DI MANTOVA RACCONTANO IL LORO PERCORSO NEL SETTORE.
