To cover the risks involved in these activities, like many others, adequate information and staff training is essential, both before introducing staff to the field, and successively as a form of “review”. Both general and specific forms of training are dealt with in point 1.15 of the above text, and it must be remembered that part of the training is compulsory. In any case, the employer must organize all that is necessary. Among the equipment, particular attention must be paid to lifting equipment which, if it were to deteriorate or be used improperly, could result in serious or fatal crushing incidents. ELECTROCUTION Moving on to the risk of electrocution, which exists every time you use electrical equipment and / or work on electric systems. Similarly the training and courses to become Expert Persons (PES) or at least Warned Persons (PAV) count, which, depending on the responsibility that the role entails, are indispensable, along with the use of appropriate PPE. It is necessary to verify that the system, where present, is adequately grounded, correctly installed and protected, and to periodically check the equipment, including any extensions. The indispensable PPE are dielectric gloves and suitable footwear. Please note that, for the purposes of compliance with Legislative Decree 81/2008, the analysis of electrical risks is mandatory. FALLING FROM HEIGHTS A common risk in the work of the lift operator is falling from heights. This is a complex issue, because our technicians do not work like technicians who work on roofs, or those who are always on scaffolding. Of course, there may be the use of scaffolding inside the shaft during installation (not always today), in which case it is necessary to verify that it complies with the specific rules; however, it often happens that they have to stand on a moving floor, when the car is not yet installed, or on the roof of the car, even when it is moving. Furthermore, it is possible to fall from a landing, through an open door, in the absence of a car at the landing. The risk is defined as a fall when the distance from the floor below is more than two meters, but in fact you can get hurt, in various ways, even falling from a lower height. In addition, it should be noted that our lift standards allow a greater distance between the car and the shaft walls than that considered in the general accident prevention regulations (20 cm). Our specific problem is that certain typical PPE to cover the risk are not suitable for this kind of work, as they are not designed to be used while on the move, as can happen in our business. It is therefore necessary in those cases that the devices (such as, for example, the harness, which must be suitable) can be safely fixed on moving parts that are integral GESTIONE DELLA SICUREZZA d i G i u s e p p e I o t t i
