Speaking of emergency situations, personnel should always be made aware of the escape routes in any work space. In addition, part of the staff must take fire-fighting courses, and others must take First Aid courses, in fact, it would be ideal if all workers did. MANUAL HANDLING OF LOADS Manual handling of loads is a problematic issue both for safety and for health issues, we must not forget that the latter must be protected in order to avoid costly recourse for companies. Of course, the lift operator uses equipment to lift and handle weights, but unfortunately this is not always possible. In this case, the staff must be trained to deal with the situation without causing damage to themselves or others ( because manual lifting often needs more than one person in action). Although it cannot be said that in our work repetitive operations are carried out, however it may be that after many years of activity the staff claim to have accrued physical damage due to the same repeated “cycles”, which is usually implausible, but that must be proven to have complied with the law. The law also imposes a mandatory risk analysis in this case. More generally, and this also applies to office work, it is important to maintain correct postures and operate in healthy ergonomics conditions. NOISE AND VIBRATIONS Other risks that involve a specific analysis are noise and vibrations. Actually, it is unlikely that our staff will experience really critical situations with this issue, but noisy drills may be used, or simply to environmental noise on site may be experienced. The evaluation must be renewed periodically. CHEMICAL RISK Another risk that must be assessed by law (and renewed if conditions change) is the chemical risk, which refers to the use of substances which, in our sector, are hydraulic oils, lubricants, anchors and anything else that may contain toxic substances. HEALTH RISKS, CUTS AND SHOCKS A reminder shouldn’t be needed, since the pandemic is unfortunately not over yet, but at work there are health risks, of cutting infections, in the use unsanitary toilets or diseases contracted by contagion. While working, in addition to cuts, it is possible to suffer shocks, be hit by splinters, to inhale or get injured to the eyes due to dust, to slip on a f lat surface, or even serious cuts when the car moves without the control of the maintenance technician.
