Deve essere svolta unicamente da persona competente per le riparazioni, preventivamente autorizzata dal fabbricante, in conformità alle istruzioni impartite dallo stesso. Per i DPI soggetti a invecchiamento, il regolamento 2016/425 allegato II art. 2.4 prevede che se è noto che le prestazioni di progetto di un nuovo DPI possono deteriorarsi notevolmente con l’invecchiamento, il mese e l’anno di fabbricazione e/o, se possibile, il mese e l’anno di scadenza devono essere marchiati in modo indelebile e inequivocabile su ciascun esemplare di DPI immesso sul mercato e sui relativi imballaggi. I DPI possono quindi avere una scadenza, indicata sulla nota informativa del fabbricante. La scadenza può essere riferita alla data di fabbricazione e/o a quella di primo utilizzo e/o alla durata dello stoccaggio e può variare in relazione alle modalità e all’ambiente in cui vengono utilizzati/conservati.
