same market and this system does not facilitate growth. Many companies in the sector prefer managing orders in extended times or even refuse some orders so as not to be forced to have to advance cash. There is clearly a rush to acquire customers at any cost, forgetting the economic values, in some cases. Evaluating the success of a company by the number of installations under maintenance or by the value of the turnover can be misleading, while looking at the parameters of the balance sheet and corporate governance may be more reliable. Generically, corporate governance refers to all the tools, rules, systems, processes and corporate relationships that contribute to efficient management of the company and the fundamental role is played by those who make decisions. In micro-enterprises, the roles of ownership and corporate governance often merge and corporate decisions or guidelines can be unbalanced by an “all-round” ownership. In more advanced SMEs, the governance system is very similar to that of large companies, while in micro and small enterprises, governance is still often identified with the ownership or with the single entrepreneur who runs the company. This difference in the lift sector is still very well defined, as the gap is clear between large and small and micro companies and with a scarce presence of medium-sized companies. Sector companies are characterized by the need for technical knowledge which must be accompanied by the in-depth knwoledge of the customer and company numbers. The clear distinction between technical-operational and financial management can lead to managerial failure, given the difference in the various areas or the absence of discussion and dialogue or even, in some cases, the total lack of economicfinancial analysis. It would be better to have a corporate management that is more projected towards enterprise systems and less towards a do-it-yourself entrepreneurship that seeks to satisfy the “overbearing” customer at all costs. It is necessary to include younger people in the companies because they are capable of a global vision and are free from the historical legacies of the sector that have burdened the system. If Italian companies don’t have the strength to change, giving way to generational change and innovation, they run the risk of being crushed. Probably, after years of thinking that the imbalances on the market were produced by a certain type of company, today it could be important to consider that the many micro-enterprises, many of which pay little attention to managerial management, for diverse reason, could contribute to making the situation worse. In conclusion, these signals should not be underestimated and all the players in the sector, both maintainers and producers and customers and institutions, must be part of the change by reversing this trend of late payments which generates problems for everyone, including the State, even if the sector is still a vastly successful one. al cliente finale. 20 I L PUNTO d i M i c h e l e M a z z a r d a
