38 As far as the hydraulic parts are concerned, it is important to know more about the manufacturers’ positions because, as we all know, a campaign has been underway for more than two decades that tends to put this technology in a bad light compared to the electric gearless drive. For our customers, the element that is mostly evident is not so much the energy aspect itself, but rather that of the power supply, and therefore of the connection costs, two distinct issues that are often confused. But, beyond the economic impact of this aspect, in reality the two types of installation have different energy (and environmental) characteristics that make them both possible solutions, if there is the ability to analyse the context well. Switchboards contain various electrical, electromechanical, and electronic equipment that lead to non-negligible consumption, even when the car is stationary. It is therefore good to look into this subject. In addition, the same can be said of the luminous buttons, displays, and screens of various types that one tends to place in the car or at the landings, for functional or aesthetic reasons that should, however, also be evaluated in terms of their energy/environmental consequences. The prospects, therefore, are to interrupt its operation, as far as possible, when the user does not need the lift, understanding when and how much it is possible to do so without diminishing the validity of the service offered. As for the machinery, the manufacturer provides an important series of suggestions on how to balance the different needs of supporting the required speeds and capacities with those of reducing consumption by increasing efficiency. We will thus discover that it is not always true that the gearless solution is better than the traditional geared one and, here too, the context must be analysed. Our appreciation therefore goes to these suppliers.
