development?” with an in-depth look at the statistical data and market trends of vertical transportation, the challenges of modernising the lift fleet with a focus on the safety and sustainability of the buildings of the future. Among the speakers was the national president of Anacam Andrea Codebò who, after outlining a picture of companies in the lift sector through data processed by Anacam, emphasised the difficulty of finding specialised personnel, which in fact slows down companies in their growth path. The mismatch between supply and demand in 2022 caused a loss of added value of almost EUR 38 billion, Codebò explained, and this imbalance will increase even more in the future, on the one hand, due to an increase in retirement flows and, on the other, due to a decrease in people of working age. José María Compagni Morales, EFESME Vice President, also participated in the panel, discussing the challenges that SMEs in the sector will face in the next ten years. This was followed by a GEE Talk on the impact of the European and Italian regulatory framework on the supply chain, new regulations and quality standards between innovation, safety and sustainability, attended by Paolo Tattoli. A rich programme of GEE Talks for 16 November. “Accessibility and inclusiveness: rethinking places and buildings” is the title of the in-depth discussion organised in cooperation with Anacam. Moderator: Roberto Cuccioletta, president of the Accessibility in Buildings Commission of the Order of Engineers of Rome. Stefano Maiandi, president of the FIABA Onlus association, which was instrumental in achieving the important goal of the 75% bonus with the support of Anacam, emphasised that the removal of an architectural barrier must be contextualised within the human condition, and that therefore the bonus aims to make spaces usable, accessible, and exploitable for all individuals. The 75% bonus, Maiandi emphasised, is a measure based not on disability but on social inclusion because the lift improves everyone’s quality of life, not just that of the disabled. Moderated by Elettra Bilibio, EFESME’s Policy Advisor, during the panel “The global elevator: Experiences from around the world in comparison” the differences between the European and Indian markets were addressed with a focus on future challenges. Anacam Vice-President Alessandro Cattelan offered an insightful analysis, which is offered and discussed in detail in the article on page 8 of this issue of the magazine. This was followed by a space dedicated to the opportunities offered by the programmes linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Italian: Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza - PNRR) and the new incentives for energy efficiency in buildings and for overcoming architectural barriers, with the moderation of Vice-President Piero Mosanghini. At the opening of the GEE Talk, the floor was given to Giuseppe Iotti, who explained how more than one million lifts, including lifting platforms, are in operation in Italy. Of these, about 85% are lifts in residential buildings with very low to medium traffic intensity. These lifts account for between 2% and 3% of the total consumption of the 2033.
