CONCEPT of accessibility has evolved significantly over the years, moving from the idea of a place without barriers to that of an inclusive environment, able to accommodate people with different abilities and levels of autonomy. This vision therefore considers all categories of users, such as the elderly, people with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities, and people who are healthy but temporarily hindered. As Antonio Laurìa emphasises in his article ‘L’accessibilità come sapere abilitante per lo sviluppo umano’ (ENG: ‘Accessibility as an enabling knowledge for human development’, accessibility is configured as the ability of an environment to guarantee every person, regardless of age, gender or ability, an autonomous and quality life. This concept is dynamic and ever-changing, just like the regulatory framework that reflects the changing social perception of disability and accessibility. In order to better understand the accessibility challenges in our sector, we involved the Association of the Visually Impaired and the Association of Cochlear Implant Wearers to share their difficulties in using lifts. Thanks to the contribution of Emanuele Emiliani of DMG and Stefano Morandi of Telesan, we can investigate these issues and work towards more inclusive and accessible solutions.
