67 DMG has always been synonymous, in Italy and Europe, with design and innovation in pushbuttons, fixtures and lift components. For several years, however, this initial imprint has been accompanied by an increasingly strong and convincing presence also in the field of controllers. Confirming this is the recent acquisition of BEG Srl, one of the most successful controller manufacturers in Italy. We talked about this with Emanuele Emiliani, CEO of DMG SpA. There is greater interest in DMG as a controller manufacturer and supplier of complete electrical systems. Are you changing your skin from your history as a manufacturer of fixtures? We are focusing heavily on the pre-wired electrical system (the control panel, the shaft lines and the pushbutton panels, designed as an integrated system) as the flagship solution of our commercial offer. It is a long-term strategy, which in fact began 20 years ago with the opening of the “Pitagora” program, the DMG Complete Electrical System. The introduction of the Pitagora product in Italy is more recent and began to bear the first fruits only in recent years, when we aligned our offer with the somewhat unique characteristics of the Italian panorama. However, DMG has been selling controllers throughout Europe for a long time: we are the only controller manufacturer actively selling in 12 European countries. In such a crowded panorama of products and solutions, what distinguishes your proposal? We design and manufacture panels, pushbutton panels, displays, telephones and other components for lifts. Convergence and integration are our mantra but we are also extremely realistic: products are becoming more and more complicated and specialized while the availability of technicians in the field physiologically decreases, therefore either we make our technology simple and accessible or we are out. This is why we have also invested so much in service software, smartphone applications and integrated solutions. With our Fusion platform, for example, we offer our customers a powerful and effective solution to access their installed base of connected controllers with maximum immediacy and simplicity. We want to make life easier for lift companies. In Italy, competition in the supply of lift controllers is strong and there is a solid tradition of “historic” manufacturers. How is it DMG behaving in this regard? Many Italian companies in our sector are artisanal and are still faced with dimensions and volumes that are too low to allow investment and innovation in the long term. As a larger company we have the opportunity to aggregate more skills, to industrialize and modernize the framework product by leveraging the experience and expertise accumulated over time on other products. We focus a lot on technology, innovation, connectivity. Our Pitagora 4.0 electrical system is called “connected” because we believe very much in the effectiveness of remote surveillance and in the new frontiers of “remote” maintenance. The market is slowly rewarding this type of more advanced solutions and DMG is growing. For years we have believed in internal and organic growth, but today... we have something new! C’è un maggiore interesse verso DMG come quadrista e fornitore di sistemi elettrici completi. State cambiando pelle rispetto alla vostra storia di produttore di pulsantiere? Stiamo puntando molto sul sistema elettrico precablato (il quadro di manovra, le linee di vano e le pulsantiere, progettate come un sistema integrato) come soluzione di punta della nostra offerta commerciale. È una strategia di lungo periodo, di fatto iniziata 20 anni fa con l’apertura del programma “Pitagora”, il Sistema Elettrico Completo DMG. L’introduzione del prodotto Pitagora in Italia è più recente e ha iniziato a dare i primi frutti solo negli ultimi anni, quando abbiamo allineato la nostra offerta alle caratteristiche un po’ uniche del panorama italiano. Tuttavia, da lungo tempo DMG vende quadri di manovra in tutta Europa: siamo l’unico fornitore di quadri che vende attivamente in 12 Paesi europei. In un panorama così affollato di prodotti e soluzioni, cosa distingue la vostra proposta? Noi progettiamo e produciamo quadri, pulsantiere, display, telefoni e altri componenti per ascensori. La convergenza e l’integrazione sono il nostro mantra ma siamo anche estremamente realisti: i prodotti diventano sempre più complicati e specializzati mentre la disponibilità di tecnici sul campo diminuisce fisiologicamente, pertanto o rendiamo la nostra tecnologia semplice e accessibile o siamo fuori. È per questo che abbiamo investito tanto anche in software di servizio, applicazioni per smartphone e soluzioni integrate. Con la nostra piattaforma Fusion, ad esempio, offriamo ai nostri clienti una soluzione potente ed efficace per accedere al proprio parco di quadri connessi ad internet con estrema immediatezza e semplicità. Vogliamo semplificare la vita agli ascensoristi. In Italia la concorrenza nell’offerta di quadri di manovra per ascensori è forte e c’è una solida tradizione di quadristi “storici”. Voi come vi state muovendo? Molte imprese italiane nel nostro settore sono di estrazione artigianale e scontano ancora oggi dimensioni e volumi troppo bassi per consentire investimenti ed innovazione nel lungo periodo. Come azienda di dimensioni più ampie abbiamo l’opportunità di aggregare più competenze, di industrializzare e modernizzare il prodotto quadro facendo leva sull’esperienza e la competenza accumulata nel tempo sugli altri prodotti. Puntiamo molto su tecnologia, innovazione e connettività. Il nostro sistema elettrico Pitagora 4.0 è denominato “connesso” perché crediamo moltissimo nell’efficacia della tele-
