THE QUESTION: it is possible to replace a control panel while maintaining the existing lines. True or false? THE REGULATORY ASPECT This is a modification of an existing installation. The reference standard is UNI 10411-1 edition September 2021. Chapter 11 deals with the issue: replacement of the control panel. Point 11.1.2 states: “when replacing the control panel, the entire electrical part of the installation (conductors, devices, equipment, and floor door locking devices) must also be replaced, except when the electrical part is already compatible with any new voltage and current values and all the electrical conductors (fixed and movable) already installed are marked”. THE ANSWER In light of the above, if the existing power lines: - are not compatible with the new voltage and current values - and/or the existing conductors are not marked these lines must be replaced simultaneously with the replacement of the new control panel. Only by carrying out the work in full compliance with the requirements of point 11 and in particular point 11.1.2 of UNI 10411-1 can it be declared that the work has been carried out in accordance with the aforementioned standard. It must be borne in mind that the execution of the work may take place in another manner that will be assessed by the inspector of the Notified Body at the time of the extraordinary inspection. Clearly, if one chooses to proceed with an execution that does not comply with the specific requirements of point 11.1.2 of UNI 10411-1, it will not be possible to declare that the work has been carried out in full compliance with the aforementioned standard. * Coordinator of the WG9 “Modifications to existing lifts” of the UNI-CT019 commission “Lifts, goods lifts, escalators and similar equipment”, General Secretary Anacam, AMCA ELEVATORI 69
