Gli ascensori dell’Aiguille du Midi, che hanno una corsa di 65 metri, hanno il compiIN the heart of the French Alps, the Mont Blanc massif is home to two of Europe’s most extraordinary ‘extreme’ vertical transport systems: the Aiguille du Midi lifts. These lifts are an example of how technology can make even the most remote and naturally hostile places accessible, while maintaining high standards of safety and environmental sustainability. Guiding us through the technological innovations applied to the lifs doors and the challenges faced in making an environment with extreme climatic conditions accessible is Carlo Ferrari of Wittur. WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THESE INSTALLATIONS? As part of a vast programme to improve the accessibility of the Aiguille du Midi site, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc decided to dismantle the pre-existing lift, dating back to 1996, to make way for two independent duplex lifts that were installed in a new shaft. Work began in 2014 and was completed in 2015.
