* Direttore generale di Mastech of pre-wiring because, if they are not of adequate quality or are not installed correctly, they themselves become the critical element of the entire system. Troubleshooting a pre-wired system, in fact, can take even longer than on-site wiring and may negate the cost incurred if the problem is difficult to identify. A major aid to the installation phase and to the elimination of errors in pre-wiring connections comes from the use of polarised (or one-way) connectors, whose asymmetrical shape prevents incorrect mating or reversed connections. THE ROLE OF SERIAL SYSTEMS Today, many of the control panels available on the market are based on serial pre-wiring systems. Compared to the old ‘wire-to-wire’ (parallel) systems, the use of the serial protocol drastically reduces installation complexity and maintenance times. The serial devices in the system communicate with one another via connections with a reduced number of poles but with more sensitive cabling that requires greater care during installation. If the pre-connected cable for the lift shaft is too short, even by just 20 cm, the installer cannot easily splice it without compromising the integrity of the bus. If it is too long, the excess cable creates tangles that act as antennas for interference. It is therefore essential that this type of connection is made only using pre-wired solutions that take into account the characteristics of the transmitted signal. EFFICIENCY AND REDUCTION OF HUMAN ERROR The use of quick-connectors transforms the installation process into a series of reliable and rapid steps. The only variable is the accurate measurement of lift shaft dimensions, which must be carried out with extreme precision at the ordering stage. The results are clear: • a reduction of over 40% in electrical installation times; • repeatability over time: the pre-wiring of a system can be reproduced with the same specifications thanks to the design work carried out in the technical department; • elimination of faults caused by connection errors; • ease of maintenance: a pre-wired system is inherently organised, labelled and easily readable by any maintenance technician; • possibility of using control panels with serial technology. In short, pre-wiring does not merely shift part of the work from the construction site to the technical department: it introduces a more structured way of thinking about the system, in which the execution phase depends less on individual adaptation and more on the quality of the design. * Mastech Managing Director
