A point of discontinuity with the past is clearly noted, as the terminations with 3 U-bolt clips and those made with the aid of the spelter socket, are no longer included within EN 81-20. Ontheotherhand, twonewtypes of terminations are introduced which are the one with pressed aluminum ferrule (EN 13411-3) and the one with pressed / threaded termination (EN 13411-8). The latter two types must be provided by the rope supplier who applies them on one end of the rope itself, while the wedge terminal continues to be used at the other end of the rope. In order to be able to produce the pressed type terminations, it is obviously necessary to have specific machinery and a wellcalibrated procedure that can comply with the requirements of the technical standards mentioned. The company that makes them shall prepare a technical file with the appropriate laboratory tests and experiments, aimed at demonstrating compliance with the essential safety requirements. We do not deal too much on this aspect, as it is important to highlight it, but in fact it is something that the rope supplier will develop. Certifications and traceability Each rope shall be accompanied by a declaration of conformity, which contain the technical characteristics of the rope itself, the traceability methods of the reel from which these rope lengths were taken, as well as being able to trace the batch and the production plant. This document shall be kept together with the elevator logbook for future checks and to confirm the type of rope to be purchased when the time comes to replace the current one. The part we will focus on in this occasion, is the rope description string. The terms used shall be those contained within EN 12385-2 when it comes to nomenclature. There are, therefore, a series of fields that shall be present and that allow the rope in question to be unequivocally identified. In this regard, please refer to the Figure 1 which details a typical description (for the meaning of the symbols, see EN 12385-2). Periodical inspections UNI/TS 11807 (Figure 1) 11
