tion in the market. A brand that generates returns and enjoys credibility carries significant weight in the valuation. The value increases even further if the previous owner is also involved in the transaction, especially if he or she enjoys respect in the industry. This is an aspect that multinationals assess very carefully: if they do not find a valid reason for investment in the company, the perceived value decreases significantly. In this case, they look with less interest at the number of installations. As the last item on the priority scale, they consider technicians. Here too, however, it is necessary to check the actual skills of the personnel in the short term, as it cannot be taken for granted that all technicians are really qualified. IF YOU COULD GO BACK, WOULD YOU STILL MAKE THIS CHOICE? I honestly don’t know. I got a good economic result and provided stability for the company. The problem is that when you are used to deciding everything, it is difficult to accept someone else telling you how to do your job. Accepting compromises is very complicated. WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE COMPANIES IN THE SECTOR THAT ARE THINKING OF SELLING TO A MULTINATIONAL? In my opinion, such a choice should never be made when you are in a very difficult economic situation and you don’t know how to get out of it. They inevitably analyse the mechanisms of the company in depth and, if they find a critical position, it is very likely that the transaction will not go through. In my case, for example, the company was suffering from cash flow imbalances related to late payments from some customers, but had no financial problems. IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT COULD BE AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE MULTINATIONAL COMPANY? Ours is a very competitive industry and small and medium-sized companies often struggle to access resources and advanced technology to grow. If companies collaborated more, they could achieve better results without necessarily having to sell to a large group. For example, an alliance between several companies could allow them to invest in research and development, obtain better conditions from suppliers or create more efficient service networks. Instead, everyone often thinks only of their own immediate interest, without an overall view. I myself have tried to create synergies between companies in the sector, but it is not easy. Many prefer to work independently, even if this means having less strength in the market. In the future, I believe that companies will have to change their mentality and start thinking more as a system. Accettare i compromessi è molto complicato.
