Usually in the first few days of the year, the quantities recorded are compared with the data in the inventory reports to correctly determine the value of the stock. In January, year-end invoices are then recorded in time for the VAT return deadline, and bank balances are reconciled. This latter task is essential for verifying the completeness of the entries recorded in the bank statement. Increasingly, financial institutions (banks, leasing companies, or others) require detailed information on the company’s financial position. With this in mind, it is good practice to register on the Bank of Italy’s website and request the monthly Central Credit Register report. THE COMPILATION AND PREPARATION OF DATA FOR THE ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS Next, adjusting entries are made, which are necessary to comply with the accounting principles of financial competence, i.e. the correct allocation of revenue and costs to the relevant financial year. Key adjusting entries include: • verification of fixed assets and calculation of depreciation; • valuation of inventories using weighted average cost, specific cost, FIFO (First In, First Out) or LIFO (Last In, First Out); magazzino per verificare l’esistenza e la completezza delle merci e delle altre rimanenze presenti in azienda. Quest’ultima attività è fondamentale per verificare la completezza delle registrazioni delle scritture riportate nell’estratto conto bancario. Sempre più spesso le istituzioni finanziarie (banche, società di leasing o altro) richiedono informazioni dettagliate sulla situazione finanziaria dell’impresa. In questa ottica è buona prassi registrarsi al sito di Banca d’Italia e chiedere il rilascio mensile della Centrale Rischi. LA FORMAZIONE E PREPARAZIONE DEI DATI PER IL BILANCIO DI ESERCIZIO Successivamente si avviano le scritture di assestamento, necessarie per rispettare i principi di competenza economica, cioè di corretta imputazione dei ricavi e dei costi all’esercizio di riferimento.
