Finché l’impianto trascurato resta invisicant challenge would probably be cultural rather than technological. And then there is the service bulletin: in the aviation sector, there is a formalised chain of command that ensures information about a critical issue reaches those responsible for working on the aircraft. In this regard too, sharing best practice can offer useful insights for our sector. HEATING SYSTEMS: THE REGISTER WE’RE MISSING A boiler, too, is a dangerous piece of machinery permanently installed in a building; by law (the good old Ministerial Decree 37/08), it must be installed by a qualified fitter and undergo regular inspections. Unlike lifts, however, there is a specific tool in place: a regional digital register where maintenance work is recorded. The result: every local authority has access to information on the heating infrastructure within its area and the status of inspections. For lifts, the picture is different: with around one million lifts subject to periodic inspection, each with a municipal registration number, the information is scattered across numerous municipal archives, which are not always digitised and are difficult to integrate. The lesson here is not a technological one but an organisational and institutional one: making ‘non-maintenance’ visible. As long as a neglected lift remains invisible, those who cut corners on main12 IL PUNTO DATI CONDIVISI, TRACCIABILITÀ DEGLI INTERVENTI, QUALIFICAZIONE DELLE COMPETENZE E SEGNALAZIONE DEI NEAR-MISS SONO ALCUNI DEGLI STRUMENTI SU CUI IL SETTORE DEVE APRIRE UNA RIFLESSIONE CONCRETA Data sharing, traceability of maintenance work, skills certification and the reporting of near-misses are some of the tools the sector needs to give serious consideration to DI ALESSANDRO CATTELAN*
