41 DAL 20 GENNAIO 2027 LA EN 81-20 NON BASTERÀ, DA SOLA, A COPRIRE TUTTI I REQUISITI APPLICABILI AGLI ASCENSORI From 20 January 2027, EN 81-20 alone will no longer be sufficient to cover all the requirements applicable to lifts EN ISO 8100: la parte che non può attendere (per colpa delle macchine!) EN ISO 8100: the part that cannot wait (because of the machines!) Ihave been asked to explain how Notified Bodies are preparing for the arrival of the new Machinery Regulation. The answer is that, at present, there is still a lack of clarity on how to proceed. Yet the problem is not merely ‘limited’ to machinery; it will also, very soon, impact the world of lifts. The first test will come when they have to certify, in accordance with the Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU, systems still designed in accordance with EN 81-20:2020, but placed on the market from 20 January 2027 onwards. Those systems will also have to comply with the new or amended Essential Health and Safety Requirements introduced by Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. It is at this point that the transition to EN ISO 8100-1:2026 can no longer be postponed beyond the end of the overlap period with EN 81-20. Part of the new standard affects us sooner, because from January 2027, EN 81-20 will no longer be sufficient, on its own, to cover all applicable requirements. THE LINK BETWEEN THE TWO SETS OF LEGISLATION Annex I, point 1.1, of the Lifts Directive already stipulates that, where a relevant risk exists and is not covered by Annex I to that Directive, the essential requirements of Annex I to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC shall apply.
