Safety remains our primary duty. But today we are also called upon to tackle new risks, from site management to cyber security, from subcontracting to the proper management of responsibilities. This is why we must continue to invest in a culture of safety, providing companies with practical and user-friendly tools. ANACAM’s new technical and regulatory handbook on site safety, soon to be available, moves precisely in this direction. At the same time, digitalisation is profoundly changing the relationship between the plant, the company and the customer. The phasing out of the 2G network, the new ISO 8100 standards, the Machinery Regulation and, above all, the issue of data access are forcing us to make decisions that will have consequences for the future of the maintenance market. Elevator data must not become a barrier to accessing the service. We must uphold the principle of free competition and, at the same time, the right of businesses to carry out their work whilst having access to the necessary information. Digitalisation must be an opportunity to improve the service, not a tool for creating new forms of dependency. Then there is a challenge that I consider even more important: people. The generational transition is no longer a problem we can put off. Our companies need young people, but they also need to pass on to them that wealth of expertise which is not found solely in manuals and regulations. It is built through experience, day-to-day work and the relationship between generations. ANACAM Giovani must quickly take up this baton and, with its enthusiasm and energy, drive the future of our association forward. For this reason, training and making the profession attractive must become a strategic priority. Projects aimed at apprentices, junior technicians and secondary school pupils represent an investment in the future of our sector. ANACAM must also continue to play its part on accessibility issues. Every day, lift companies play an increasingly central social role in people’s lives by making buildings more accessible. The dialogue we have initiated with the authorities, including on the issue of reduced VAT rates, demonstrates just how important it is to speak with a united and authoritative voice. This is the responsibility of an association: not merely to represent what already exists, but to help build what does not yet exist. The future of our sector will depend on technology, new regulations, sustainability and digitalisation. But above all, it will depend on our ability to work together as a sector. As ANACAM, we must continue to be the forum where businesses across the entire supply chain can exchange views, find tools, share experiences and convey their needs to the authorities. Changing gear, therefore, does not simply mean going faster. It means having a clear direction. And I am convinced that there can be only one such direction: a safer, more competent, more innovative and more united sector. This is the challenge before us. And we must face it together to overcome it; otherwise, we will all lose. To borrow a well-known line from international politics that 6 DI PIERO MOSANGHINI
