27 MAY 2021: EFESME and SBS Lift Forum on BIM in the lift sector

sbs lift forum bim

The forum organized by EFESME and SBS on BIM - Building Information Modeling will be held on May 27th, from 10 to 12.30 on the GoToWebinar platform. BIM is a system that integrates the classic "3D modeling" with the digitization of all the information and documents necessary for design, construction and maintenance phases management of a building and its systems, including lifts. BIM is a tool that will have a growing impact not only on the world of construction, but also on the lifts and lifting systems sector. Today in Italy, the use of BIM is mandatory in public tenders for construction and infrastructure works for amounts equal to or greater than 100 million euros. This amount will gradually decrease over the next few years until it reaches one million starting from 1 January 2025. A similar process is also pictured in other EU countries. BIM is also already used in large private contracts and its progressive expansion in private construction is expected.

The aim of the webinar is to contribute to the creation of a BIM culture also in the lift sector. After the welcoming speech by EFESME president Massimo Bezzi and an SBS representative, Maria Grazia Marchi, owner of Krea and member of the Exellence International Consultancy, and Paul Surin, associate partner of IBM GBS UKI, will take the floor for a general examination of BIM and for a presentation of the standardization outlook. The second session of the forum will see the two EFESME and SBS experts Tiziano Caresani and Marco Cogliati go into more detail, examining the impact of BIM on the daily activities of lift companies. Therefore, SMEs must understand the extent of the changes that BIM will bring to the sector: a change in method and mentality that will affect the work of lift components producers as well as installers and maintenance managers. For this reason, the second session of the forum will also offer more concrete information and practical examples on how a SME can start taking an interest in and working with BIM. The meeting is free and will be held in English.
