UNI published the free Guide to BIM standards

05 April 2024

The UNI/CT 033/SC 05 Subcommission has produced the very useful 'Guida alle norme per le costruzioni digitali – La parte 0 della UNI11337', in English ‘Guide to Standards for Digital Construction - Part 0 of UNI11337 ' to help sector professionals and companies find their way around the BIM regulatory landscape. The document, available free of charge on the UNI website, consists of three sections.

Part 1 explains what is meant by BIM and digital construction management, what advantage could be derived from this path of innovation, who is behind the regulatory work and how to recognise standards that fall under the European regulation.

Part 2, on the other hand, delves into the main BIM standards, in particular the UNI 11337 series and the UNI EN ISO 19650 series. There is a concept map of the standards package and each standard is described according to its purpose, what it is used for, when to use it and who should use it.

Finally, Part 3 contains a glossary of BIM-related terms and definitions, including acronyms and their English translation. The document will be constantly updated.

"As an observer appointed by the UNI/CT 019 ‘Impianti di ascensori, montacarichi, scale mobili e apparecchi similari’ commission, in English the UNI/CT 09 ‘Elevator, freight elevator, escalator and similar equipment installations' commission," explained Marco Cogliati, EFESME technical expert, "I participate in the UNI/CT 033/SC 05 'BIM e gestione digitale dei processi informativi delle costruzioni commission’, in English 'BIM and digital management of construction information processes'. I personally took an active part in the drafting of the guide, dealing with part of the introduction and closely following the work of the other experts.

I believe it can be an interesting document for those approaching this world, to get a clear picture of the regulatory/legislative approach".

For those interested, issue no. 1-2023 di ANACAM MAGAZINE is entirely dedicated to BIM. Among the authors is Marco Cogliati, who contributed two interesting articles
