38 METAL SHAFTS, a research project to test safety and develop new products CASTELLETTI, un progetto di ricerca per testare la sicurezza e sviluppare nuovi prodotti METAL WORKING SRL, IN COLLABORAZIONE CON L’UNIVERSITÀ DI TRENTO E IL POLITECNICO DI MILANO, HA PRESENTATO I RISULTATI DEL PROGETTO DI RICERCA IN OCCASIONE DEL VFA-FORUM INTERLIFT 2023 AD AUGSBURG Metal Working Srl, in collaboration with the University of Trento and the Politecnico of Milan, presented the results of the research project at the VFA-Forum Interlift 2023 in Augsburg RICERCA & SVILUPPO DI DENIS FERRARI E FRANCESCO GARDUMI* “SISTEMI strutturali innovativi. New joint system for elevators” is the title of the research project carried out by Metal Working Srl in collaboration with the University of Trento and the Politecnico of Milan from 2019 to 2022, the results of which were presented during the VFA-Forum Interlift 2023 in Augsburg. This ambitious research project has facilitated a connection between industry, engineers and universities, helping to overcome existing design limitations in the field of steel structures for lifts as well as in all structures made of cold-formed thin-walled elements. The current design equations prescribed by the Eurocode, as shown in the scientific literature, cannot sufficiently capture the response of monosymmetrical members. The first phase of the project, therefore, was aimed at a critical analysis of the structural systems of some lifts currently in use, designed according to current European and Italian standards (Eurocode and NTC 2018), evaluating their safety in both static and seismic conditions through the use of numerical models and specific experimental tests performed on both components and complete structural systems.
