25 So I told him my idea of the future for RIAM. It was a difficult but sincere confrontation. I am grateful to him because he understood my reasons and recognised that it was time to take a step back. WHAT DID THE ACQUISITION OF YOUR UNCLE’S SHARES ENTAIL? The agreement was clear: if I took over the company, all the family members present would have to leave, including Cristiano, my uncle’s son, who had left Enel to join RIAM. When we formalised the transfer at the notary, Cristiano was on holiday. His father had informed him of the acquisition, but I think he preferred not to be there. When it was done, I contacted him immediately because I wanted to present him with the project and my vision for RIAM. I told him that if he came on board one day, he could represent the third generation. Cristiano chose to stay and, over time, we strengthened an already solid relationship based on mutual esteem and trust. Today he has grown a lot, becoming a fundamental point of reference for me and for the whole RIAM team. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MANAGE YOUR AFFECTIONS AND BUSINESS? Working in a family is complicated, especially when it comes to making decisions that affect the lives of those you love. However, I have learnt that in order to grow the business, it is necessary to put feelings aside and focus on the common good. My father always passed on to me the value of transparency and courage, and I tried to follow his example, even in times of great difficulty. My uncle has always been part of our close family, not only at work. Despite everything, the relationship with him has always been one of great respect. It was not easy to manage this phase, but I tried to always be sincere so that there would be no misunderstandings that could weigh on emotional relationships. That’s how I think I managed to protect family relationships even when I had to say ‘no’ or make uncomfortable decisions. ONCE YOU ACQUIRED THE COMPANY, WHAT CHANGED? After the acquisition, I didn’t turn everything upside down straight away. For our employees, the change was impactful. I listened, observed, and then charted the course. Not alone, of course. RIAM has grown, and continues to grow, in terms of people, turnover and skills. Today it is the company I imagined and designed. YOU LEAD A COMPANY IN A TRADITIONALLY MALE-DOMINATED SECTOR SUCH AS LIFT OPERATORS. I grew up around technicians, phone calls, emergencies. I was so immersed in the work that I didn’t question it. But yes, it was, and still is, a very male-dominated world. It wasn’t always easy: sometimes you were dre parlare della possibilità di vendere a una multinazionale, perché non riuscivano a trovare una visione comune. Per me era impensabile. COM’È RIUSCITA A GESTIRE AFFETTI E AFFARI?
