balance sheet, whilst the second focuses on the protection of such assets. To bring intangible assets to the fore, it is not enough simply to record them or show them on the balance sheet; rather, investment must be made across every area of the business. For example, with regard to customers, this involves maintaining a computerised archive containing at least three years’ worth of historical data, detailing the type of work or services carried out and their link to existing contracts and/or orders. An integrated management programme that manages service calls and is linked to invoicing provides a summary of the data required for internal and third-party analysis, and enables a better understanding of customers and any existing trends, such as the seasonality or frequency of service calls. The benefit is twofold, as structuring the database involves internal data review and classification procedures, such as checking contracts, orders and other supporting documentation, including technical documents such as drawings or other materials. Another area of analysis concerns the management of service calls. Should the management software used provide for the reporting of hours worked and materials used, this would enable an analysis of average times and profit margins. In this context, this also refers to structured knowledge of suppliers and the materials routinely used, as well as the identification of potential opportunities. The aim is to optimise management and ensure that the information alla capacità di consolidare i valori immateriali nel patrimonio aziendale, mentre il secondo è focalizzato sulla tutela di tali beni.
