Energy efficiency is the theme of the new ANACAM MAGAZINE

13 June 2023

The new issue of ANACAM MAGAZINE is devoted entirely to energy efficiency from various points of view. In continuity with the first issue of the year, we start with an article explaining how, by using together BIM (Building Information Modelling), BEM (Building Energy Modelling), and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), buildings that are more sustainable can be realised both from an energy and environmental point of view. The topic of EPDs relating to lifts is therefore explored in depth, because the sustainability of a system does not only concern its energy consumption, but also the impact of the product from the extraction of raw materials to decommissioning.

How to calculate the energy requirements of lifts and escalators? In Italy, reference must be made to UNI/TS 11300-6, which allows the supplier to calculate the energy requirement in an approximate way and communicate it to the client, and then there is the international standard ISO 25745, in particular the first and second parts. The first of the two standards gives guidelines for the field measurement of the energy consumption of lifts, both in motion and on standby in a reference run. From this data, the second standard makes it possible to calculate the energy consumption of the lift over a certain period of operation in advance and place it in a certain energy efficiency class.

This is a very interesting issue, thanks also to the contribution of several component manufacturers who have agreed to talk about what the market has to offer today, and how savings can be made on energy bills by intervening on existing systems. In particular, they talk about switchgear, winches and gearless, hydraulic lifts, and lighting. Finally, we address the topic of company fleet efficiency with a lift company talking about its experience highlighting the pros and cons of switching to electric cars. Enjoy the reading!
